The Beverly/Morgan Park Railroad Stations District consists of six grade-level commuter stations located along the Metra-Rock Island line. As detailed in this 1994 Preliminary Staff Summary of Information submitted to the Commission on Chicago Landmarks , these buildings are rare surviving examples of nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century commuter rail facilities in Chicago.
The stations were central to the historic development of Beverly and Morgan Park as early “railroad suburbs”. Functioning as the social and economic spine of the area, the buildings were designed to reflect the scale, materials, and distinct architectural styles of the residential neighborhoods that grew around them.
The following are the contributing stations to this historic district:
91st Street Station: Originally known as the “Beverly Hills Station”, built circa 1889.
95th Street Station: Originally known as the “Longwood Station”, the current station was built in 1945. It replaced a Ca. 1889 station on the site.
99th Street Station: Originally known as the “Walden Station”, built circa 1890.
107th Street Station: Originally known as the “Belmont Station”. The landmark file dates its construction to 1906-1907 (contrary to the 1916 construction date documented in the report).
111th Street Station: Originally known as the “Morgan Park Station”. It was built in 1892.
115th Street Station: Originally known as the “Raymond Station”. The station in the landmark report was built in 1892. A first destroyed the station. A reconstructed train station is current under construction.
