Charming Spanish Bungalow

Address: 9014 S Hamilton Ave
Published In: Weekly Review (1923-1928)

THE RESIDENCE of Kingsley Coleman, 9014 S. Hamilton Avenue, is one of the newest and most charming of the additions to the colony of beautiful homes being erected in and near the Beverly Forest Preserve. The home contains five rooms and a tawny pink stucco, stippled over wide trowel marks, with red tile roof, is used for the exterior.

The Spanish doorway admits to a small vestibule with a coat closet. The vestibule opens on the left to the spacious story-and-half living room, with a vaulted ceiling.

The living room presents an attractive, balanced and symmetrical arrangement. The south end of the room, which meets the eye as one enters, is dominated by the wide, deep Spanish fireplace with its tall, sweeping chimney lines extending to the ceiling, and converging at the top. The fireplace is enhanced by a hearth and facing of firebrick in soft colors. Narrow casement windows are found on each side of the fireplace.

Five tall casement windows are ranged in a row on the east, or front side, facing Hamilton Avenue. The north end of the room is balanced by an archway leading to the rear hall, the arch corresponding in shape and size to that leading from the entrance hall. Between the two, opening into the living room, is a large closet which can be equipped with an in-a-door bed.

The west side of the house contains the kitchen, on the southwest corner, connecting with the dining alcove, which is separated from the living room by a wide arch, the bath and a bedroom. This bedroom occupies the northwest corner and another is found on the northeast, divided by a small hallway and equipped with large closets.

A garage is found at the rear.
