THE residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Hatfield, 10631 S. Seeley Avenue, is a six-room colonial home of red faced brick especially designed for the small family. The lower floor contains the conventional living room, dining room and kitchen, and upstairs there are two bedrooms and a large room for the two children of the family.

The entrance is found on the west, facing Seeley Avenue, and opens to a vestibule. This, in turn, gives to a reception hall. This hall, together with the living and dining rooms, have the same finish—a grey design for the walls, cream ceilings, ivory wood trim and dark mahogany for the doors.

French doors lead from the reception hall to the living room, on the southwest. This room, projecting a little beyond the line of the sun porch on the east, enjoys three exposures. A large brick fireplace is found in the center of the south wall, flanked by two pairs of windows. A tall, built-in cabinet is a feature, and the light fixtures are of dull gold with amber bulbs.

Another pair of French doors leads from the living room to the sun porch on the east, from which a view of Longwood Drive can be enjoyed. The same brick is used here as for the exterior and the floor is of cement.

The dining room and kitchen occupy the north side, with the dining room to the front. This room is equipped with built-in china closets and the large central chandelier is of silver. A butler’s pantry connects the dining room and kitchen. There is a rear passage connecting the kitchen and reception hall, with a lavatory and a number of convenient closets.

A colonial staircase leads to the second floor. The large children’s room extends across the entire south part of this floor, with three exposures, ample closet space, and a dormer window seat on the Seeley Avenue side. A large bedroom is found on the northwest corner, and between these, occupying a center front position, is the white tiled bath. At the rear, or on the northeast corner of this floor, is another bedroom, equipped as a sleeping porch. This room opens to an upper veranda on the east.

The features of the home are its compact, yet roomy convenience, and the beautiful views which can be enjoyed from any of the rooms. It is situated on a well wooded lot, and the construction is brick over hollow tile.
