THE residence of Dr. F. W. Wormstedt, 8960 Pleasant Avenue, occupies one of the loveliest wooded sites in North Beverly, at the edge of the Forest Preserve. The house is painted white, both the brick and wood trim, and the shutters are green. Curving flagstone walks lead across the wide lawns, making the whole setting one to enhance the charm and dignity of the Colonial style.
The entrance, on the east, gives to a spacious stair hall, with its English staircase. This hallway opens on the left to the living room and on the right to the dining room. The living room has three exposures, as it extends across the entire south side of the house. Full length windows carry out the Colonial design, and a wide natural fireplace occupies the center of the south wall. The window doors on the south open to a small stone terrace, and on the west to little iron balconies.
French doors separate the dining room from the hallway. This room has exposures on the north and east and the built-in china cabinets are set diagonally in two corners. Both this and the living room have the same finish, a delicate shade of green with walnut wood trim. The kitchen, on the northwest corner, contains electric refrigeration, and an incinerator.
The upper floor follows the design of the lower, with the master bedroom over the living room and extending across the whole south side, to provide three exposures. Here, too, is found a large fireplace. The other two bedrooms occupy corner positions on the north side, with the bath at the head of the staircase, to the east. An oil heating plant is used in this home.
