THE residence of M. T. Hayes, 2026 W. 102nd Street, presents an attractive, yet sizable home for a somewhat narrow lot, as the picture above indicates. This home contains eight spacious rooms, and achieves, through its exterior design, the appearance of fitting well into its location.
Dark pressed brick is used, with white stone, and the windows at the front and the entrance are attractively arched somewhat in the Italian manner. The small entry hall connects with the living room, on the east and also with the dining room, on the west, but set toward the rear.
The living room is quite long, extending to a music room on the north, and adjacent to this, on the extreme north end of the floor, a sun room is now being constructed. The west wall of the living room is broken by a large natural fireplace, with wall seats on one side and book cabinets on the other. The wood trim is walnut and the fixtures are ivory. French doors connect with the music room.
The dining room, gained though an ordinary door, is paneled in a tapestry effect with ivory trim. This room leads to the kitchen, which occupies a central position on the west side, through a swing door.
The upper floor contains a small central hall which gives access to four rooms, all occupying corner positions. Light tones of buff or cream, with ivory trim are used in these rooms, the largest of which is found over the living room, on the southeast corner. The bath is found on the west side, and is of white tile.
Wooden curtain poles with colored drapes are used both upstairs and down.
