THE residence of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence J. Joy, 10201 Seeley Avenue, is a beautiful addition to the Ridge District. The house is of the semi-formal Colonial type, with nine rooms—four upstairs and five down. It occupies the southeast corner of 102nd Street and Seeley Avenue, with a front line parallel to Seeley.
The entrance, on the west, opens to a vestibule, which contains a door leading to the basement, giving access by this route to the garage, built under the sun room on the south side. The reception hall, extending east and west, opens through French doors to the dining room, occupying a center and front position. The living room, on the northwest corner, is 16 feet four inches by 26 feet six inches. A large marble fireplace is in the center of the north wall, and the window bases and floor boards are marbleized to match. In the east wall are a series of built-in book cabinets. The dining room has the same marbleized effect for the window bases and floor boards. These rooms are finished in cafe au lait tones, and the walls are finished in rough plaster, stippled and varnished. A light tone is used for the wood trim to match.
The kitchen, also done in green, occupies a southeast corner position and opens to a rear porch. Between the kitchen and the living room, at the rear, is found a maid’s room.
On the second floor, the master’s bedroom is found on the southwest corner. This room connects with the bath, which in turn opens to the nursery on the southeast corner, forming a suite. Another bath is found at the rear, between the nursery and another bedroom on the northeast corner, forming a suite. The remaining bedroom occupies the northwest corner.
