THE bungalow residence of Mr. and Mrs. N. E. VanStone, 2033 W. 108th Place, is an excellent example of the well arranged story and a half structure built to take advantage of its location.
The home, situated as the picture shows on sloping ground, has been admirably adapted to its site. One of the most attractive and convenient features is seen in the garage built under the porch. In this way it becomes practically a part of the house, is heated the same as the house, and upon leaving it easy and convenient entrance to the house is made by way of the basement stairs. The location of the garage also does away with the steep drive the many homes in similar locations have.
The front entrance, facing 108th Place and looking down Seeley Avenue, is approached by winding steps. It presents an attractive appearance. Inside one is impressed by the unusual arrangement of the main floor for a bungalow structure. Usually the bungalow arrangement admits one to the living room immediately upon entrance, but in this instance all the privacy of the regular two story dwelling has been preserved.
First there is a fair sized hall with the living room opening on the east and the dining room on the west. The hall extends straight back, opening at the rear into two bedrooms.
There are five rooms on the main floor, including the kitchen, and also a large lavatory.
The dining room, which has a northwest exposure, is done in grey and blue with silver fixtures. There are three windows on the north, or front, exposure and two on the west. The top halves of all of the windows in the structure are paned. The wood trim is weathered oak with panelled walls and heavy molding.
The living room, which also has three large windows on the north and on the east, is done in grey tones with dark, mission finish trim. There is a large brick fire place in the west wall and a door opening to a porch on the west side-the porch over the garage.
The two bed rooms at the rear are well lighted. The room on the west is done in grey tones with natural birch finish and the east room in grey with walnut trim. The kitchen is finished in white and is equipped with built in cabinets.
The upper floor of the dwelling has not been finished as yet for living quarters, but it contains a surprising amount of room.
